Norma Cuadros González
Norma Cuadros González has a Masters degree in International Business and Film from the University of Exeter and The London Film School, she is a journalist and activist committed to environmental causes. Her doctoral studies began in 2022, as a PhD researcher in Media and Communications at the Centre for Cultural and Media Policy Studies. She has been awarded a University of Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarship. Her research is focused on the role of women in the Colombian film industry to achieve a more sustainable audiovisual sector.
Norma has led the Planet On Environmental Film FestivalLink opens in a new window in Colombia since 2013, bringing more than 100 audiovisual works in the six editions of the Festival, inviting renowned international directors, and above all creating a space for what could be called a new genre in cinema, environmental films.
In addition, since 2019, after finishing her masters’ degree sponsored by Chevening, Norma began to lead the discussion on green productions in Film and TV across the Colombian film industry, a topic unknown to the national sector, but which has made its way in that territory thanks to her dedicated work for raise awareness on this matter. Norma has been keynote speaker at Ficci, Bam, and has led the first research on sustainability in the national industry in 2020, this being the first study of its kind in the country funded by the Ministry of Culture of Colombia.
This study is now part of the edited collection Film and Television Production in the Age of the Climate Crisis: Towards a Greener Screen (Kaapa and Vaughan, 2022, Springer) as a co-authored chapter entitled 'The Sustainability Challenges in the Colombian Audio-Visual Industry' (González, N.C., Machicado, J., Buitrago, E.J.L). The edited collection is dedicated to the experiences of different countries where the film industry is looking for ways to reduce its carbon emissions, a key area of research Norma plans to develop.
