Research Project
My research investigates how rural housewives in China, within the context of the Chinese government’s “New Socialist Countryside” initiative and the rapid expansion of digital platforms, utilize short-video platforms to represent their domestic labour and construct subjective narratives. This study also examines the potential of these platforms to foster social empowerment and provide economic benefits, while critically analyzing the risks posed by digital and social dynamics that may reinforce traditional gender roles and class norms. My research is supervised by Dr. Carolina Bandinelli
