Dr Bobby Smith is awarded funding from the Institute of Advanced Study and from a Global Challenges Research Fund Fellowship

Bobby Smith has been awarded funding from the Institute of Advanced Study for two inter-related projects over the summer. The first, funded through a Global Challenges Research Fund Fellowship, will involve exploratory research in Rwanda and Uganda throughout June and July. Bobby is hoping to find out more about how theatre and the arts are continuing to be used in both countries as part of peacebuilding projects. In August Bobby will then travel to Kenya, funded by an IAS Award. Here he will work in partnership with Amani People’s Theatre, an organisation that has been using theatre to explore peace since the early 1990s. Bobby and the APT team will be working with practitioners across Kenya to consider what limitations hinder the work of theatre and peacebuilding initiatives. It is anticipated that these interrelated projects will form the basis for more substantial networks, research and projects in the future.
