Body - The Boyfriend Trick Dance Film
The Boyfriend Trick dance film is the embodiment of the story of a victim/survivor of trafficking for the sex trade. The film includes a soundscape of 'found' sounds from Albania and a narration in sub-titles. The dance sequence was inspired by this extract from fifteenth century Kanun of Lekë Dukagjini:
“A woman is a sack made to endure.”
A woman is known as a sack, made to endure as long as she lives in her husband’s house. Her parents do not interfere in her affairs but they bear responsibility for her and must answer for anything dishonourable that she does.
The Kanun of Lekë Dukagjini, Book 3 - Marriage, Chapter Five XXIX
The choreography seeks to explore both the physical restriction of being inside a sack and metaphorical implications of a woman being viewed as a sack.
