Bill Griffiths was influenced both by English poets such as Eric Mottram and Bob Cobbing, and American poets such as Michael McClure and Muriel Rukeyser. He published more than 80 volumes of poetry as well as other works including translations of Old English and a dictionary of Northumbrian miners' dialect.
