Design Studies Student Ambassadors 2024/25

D'Nette
First-year Design Studies and Global Sustainable Development
Hi, I'm D'Nette, a Design and Global Sustainable Development (GSD) student who discovered that design perfectly combines STEM thinking with creativity and innovation. I'm passionate about how design impacts the economy, environment, and society - from coffee cups to data systems. Through this course, I've started adapting an approach centred on systems thinking and accessible, low-tech solutions that address root causes rather than symptoms.
What I love most about the program is the real-world applicability. A first-year highlight was exercising what I've learned in dialogue about creating products and services with lasting impact on local communities at the EUpshift programme in Sierra Leone with UNICEF. I'm looking forward to the DI208-30 Future Labs module in the 2nd year and am excited to continue networking and exploring how innovation can create meaningful change!
Zeeshan
First-year Design Studies and Global Sustainable Development
Hi, I’m Zeeshan, and I am a first-year Design and Global Sustainable Development (GSD) student. I was drawn to this unique course because of its rare combination of creativity and critical thinking. My passion for design spans its many multidisciplinary forms; from physical products and visual storytelling to digital experiences and sustainable systems. Through modules like DI105: Visual Practice and Curiosity, I’ve been exploring how design can help build more emotionally resonant, inclusive, and human-centred futures.
Outside my studies, I’m the President of the newly established Warwick Design Society, which I helped found. I’ve also had incredible experiences throughout my first year, including the opportunity to speak at the Nurturing Hope conference as part of a panel on Designing for Sustainable Futures. I love the collaborative, future-oriented, and close-knit nature of Design and GSD, and I’m always keen to meet people who want to challenge ideas and explore new ways of thinking and creating.
Amaira
First-year Design Studies and Global Sustainable Development
Hi, I’m Amaira, a first-year Design and Global Sustainable Development (GSD) student with an interest in sustainable fashion and textile design. I was drawn to this course for its unique blend of creativity, critical inquiry, and real-world application. I’ve enjoyed exploring how design can be used to challenge fast fashion systems and promote more ethical, circular models of production and consumption. Through studio-based modules and GSD seminars, I’ve developed skills in visual communication, systems thinking, and material experimentation such as natural dyeing techniques and use of different fabrics. I’m excited to connect with others who care about creativity and sustainable futures!
Reagan
First-year Design Studies and Global Sustainable Development
Hi, thanks for stopping by! As a student of Design Studies and GSD, I love exploring how creativity and innovation can help solve real-world challenges. I’m especially interested in technology aspects from interactive media and screens to coding and digital experimentation. I currently enjoy learning how to make things with the materials available in the studio and then transforming an aspect of the same to digital to bridge sustainability and accessibility issues. The independent studio sessions and the wealth of resources our lecturers and module convenors share are helpful with that.
Outside of lectures and seminars, I enjoy building projects, volunteering, and diving into new tech; anything that lets me turn ideas into reality. I’m driven by curiosity and a passion for making a meaningful impact, both at university and beyond. I hope my journey gives you a glimpse of the exciting possibilities here!
Nikita
First-year Design Studies and Global Sustainable Development
Hi! I am a First Year Design and Global Sustainable Development student. I enjoy studying Design and Global Sustainable Development because it allows me to combine creativity with purpose. The course encourages me to think critically about the impact of the things we design and how they can contribute to a more sustainable future.
One of the modules I enjoyed most was UX with Service Design. It helped me strengthen my digital skills and taught me how to design user-friendly digital experiences with real-world value. I also really enjoyed working on physical products, exploring different materials and prototyping ideas.
Collaborating with my cohort on group projects has helped me develop important skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Being part of this course has inspired me to design with intention and impact — and that’s what I love most about it.
Megan
First-year Design Studies and Global Sustainable Development
Hi! I’m Megan and I am a first-year Design and GSD student. I'm currently set to be a research designer exploring VR and retrofitting with fellow peers and professors and have had the privilege of speaking in a conference utilising my design knowledge and understanding, and experience as a design ambassador. When you join, you’ll find that you can take advantage of many valuable opportunities (that are great to add to your CV). My favourite module in first year was Visual Practice and Curiosity, which really allows for an innate reflection and exploration of design and identity through the means of a portfolio, a collation of all your experimentation. I'm looking forward to my second year chosen modules where we will be expanding our scale of design.
