Assessing Digital Skills - a discussion
Workshop leader: Sara Hattersley (LDC)
This workshop will hopefully enable a discusison between participants about the possibilty of assessing digital skills in Higher Education, as part of summative assessment. It emerges from a short project as part of a Masters level course, Transforming Technologies, where tutor and students co-created a rubric for the assessment of digital skills in an e-portfolio, integrated with the current marking criteria for postgraduate study in the faculty of social sciences.
This discussion will begin by outlining some of the opportunities and issues arising from the aforementioned work (a presentation of which was made to the ALT-C conference, 2016 - see slides). Participants will then have the opportunity to consider the rubric in light of sample digital assessment, and discuss more broadly whether the valuing and assessing of digital skills has a place in the Higher Education context.
