Research funding success!
COPR members have secured funding for two of the 11 projects funded through the Police STAR fund for 2025-26. This is especially great news as fewer projects are funded each year (there were 15 in 2024-25 and 19 in 2023-24). You can read more about the projects funded on the Police STAR Fund pages. The projects involving COPR members are:
- STARIST: Stalking Threat AI Recognition (and) Identification Support Tool
This project will improve public safety through the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) tool, improving stalking identification during a victim’s initial police contact. This innovative, multi-agency collaboration will utilise existing stalking expertise in policing, and third sector, whilst involving proven AI technology developers. The resulting product will replicate nationally. (Dr Gabriele Pergola, Computer Science).
- Gendering police custody: examining women’s experiences of police custody in West Yorkshire Police
The Baird Report highlighted concerns about gendered police custody. Currently little is known about the applicability of those findings beyond GMP. Through a more systematic qualitative and quantitative analysis, this research investigates women’s lived experiences of police custody in West Yorkshire, identifying challenges and best practice solutions. (Professors Jackie Hodgson and Vanessa Munro, School of Law).
