Stop and Search Disproportionality

Black and Asian people living in the West Midlands are up to four times more likely to be stopped and searched than white people. Researchers from COPR investigated the factors contributing to this disproportionality using stop and search and officer data from West Midlands Police.

As part of the project, researchers analysed what happens to estimates of disproportionality, as more up-to-date population estimates become available.

The team was also interested in understanding the area and officer characteristics that influence stop decisions.
