Creative methods are gaining traction in socio-legal and criminological research. By centring research on courts and policing, this special issue seeks to foreground the value of creative methods in critically examining institutions that are deeply entangled with state power, surveillance, and systemic injustice. Creative and arts-led methods offer alternative pathways for enquiry and collaborations that engage with communities, attend to complex experiences, and unsettle dominant narratives.
Within the overarching theme ofCreative Methods in Research on Courts and Policing, the special issue will engage with three subthemes:
1) collaboration & co-creations
2) emotions
3) ethics
Abstracts should be submitted by 9th February 2026.
Invitations to submit a full paper will go out around 3rd March 2026, with a deadline of 7th September 2026 for papers to be submitted.
