As part of the wider history community we worked with discipline associations on relevant events, reports and projects.

 

Historical Association

The Historical Association exists to bring together people of all communities who have an interest in the past. It promotes and supports the study and teaching of history at all levels: teacher, student, amateur and professional.

IHR

The Institute of Historical Research (IHR) provides resources for historians. These resources include online articles, free event advertising, MA/PhD study, training courses, an open-access library and more.

The Royal Historical Society was founded in 1868 and promotes and defends the scholarly study of the past through a range of activities.

History UK (HE) is the national body promoting history in higher education. It was founded in 1982 as the History at Universities Defence Group and represents all UK HE history departments. It is based at the Institute of Historical Research, Senate House, London.

The 74 Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) were set up in 2005 with HEFCE funding. The Gateway was established to find links to CETL resources that are applicable to teaching and learning in Humanities disciplines.
   
Islamic Art

Islamic Studies is an umbrella term for the academic study of Islam, Muslim cultures and societies and Islamic knowledge through a variety of subject areas and perspectives. The History Subject Centre are working with a team at the Higher Education Academy to help to build a national Islamic Studies Network in order to:

  • support academics working in different disciplines or institutions, including those who are not currently part of a wider network;
  • provide opportunities to share good practice through events, project grants and publications;
  • Increase access to digital resources by working with the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC);
  • develop an enhanced picture of the provision of Islamic Studies in UK higher education;
  • build on work carried out since the designation of Islamic Studies as a strategically important subject.
