Event Programme
12:30 – 13:30 | Lunch
Use this time to meet fellow MGS PhD researchers, guest speakers (MGS alumni, non-academic partners), and staff in a more informal setting. It will give you the opportunity to have conversations about your research and hear about different career experiences.
13:30 | Welcome and introduction
13:45 – 14:15 | Preparing for a non-academic career
MGS Placements Manager Chris Thompson will share practical advice on preparing for a non-academic career during your PhD. The session will focus on how to explore career options outside academia, ways to network more effectively with employers, and how to build stronger applications while you are still completing your PhD thesis.
14:15 – 15:15| Non-academic career fair
This session will include short presentations and roundtable discussions with MGS alumni and hiring managers working outside academia. You will have the chance to hear about different career journeys, ask questions about working in non-academic roles, and gain a better understanding of opportunities available after the PhD.
15:15– 15:30 |Break
15:30 – 16:30 |Rotating discussions
During this session, you will move between tables in smaller groups to speak with guest speakers from different sectors. Rotating every 10–15 minutes will give you the opportunity to ask questions, learn from different experiences, and continue building your professional network.
