Prospective students who wish to apply for MGS DTP funding from the University of Leicester should first apply to the University to study for a research degree by completing an online application for PhD admission.

Please note that all ESRC DTP students will have at least two supervisors and in order to be considered for ESRC DTP funding you must have identified two supervisors.
In order to provide effective support for your application we would normally expect students to have made contact with prospective supervisors by 11th December 2026.
Please see below for information on each of the ESRC DTP pathways available at the University of Leicester, including details of which research degree you should apply for if you want to apply for DTP funding under that pathway at the University of Leicester.
- Under the funding section select Studentship and in the drop down select ESRC Midlands Graduate School
- In the References section include the name and address of your intended referees and include their email address. As part of your ESRC DTP funding application, the Midlands Graduate School will also consider the two references submitted in support of your PhD application at Leicester.
- You will need to upload copies of the transcripts of your previous qualifications as part of your Leicester application AND as part of your MGS DTP funding application

Communication & Media and Museum Studies
Structure of provision: Masters + PhD funding or PhD-only funding either full-time or part-time
Prospective students wishing to apply for funding under the Communication & Media pathway should submit an application for a PhD in Media and Communication or a PhD in Museum Studies, depending on your research interests.
