Research Interests
My main research interests are focussed on vegetable crop improvement and increasing sustainability. Horticultural vegetable crops have an important nutritional role in our diets, but their marketability and yield are severely affected by pests, disease and climate change. Breeding new crop varieties that are resistant to these challenges represent a sustainable approach to reducing crop losses and improving yields without an overreliance on agrochemicals. My research utilises diverse collections of vegetable crops to identify novel genetics linked to sustainability traits, such as pest and disease resistance. Many of these projects also look at improving our knowledge of underlying biology of these pests and diseases.MIBTP Project Details
