Upcoming TIA Centre Seminar Series: February and March Speakers

The Tissue Image Analytics (TIA) Centre at the University of Warwick continues its renowned seminar series this semester, offering a platform to explore cutting-edge research in computational pathology and digital healthcare. Join us on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month from 2 pm to 3 pm to hear from leading experts across the globe.

This academic year’s TIA Centre Seminar Series is off to a great start. Highlights include a special in-person visit from Prof Azra Raza (Columbia University, USA). Her visit featured two outstanding events: an evening session exploring the intersection of poetry and medicine, Rhymes of Healing: Bridging Poetry & Medicine, and a seminar on early detection in cancer care, Redefining Hope: The Early Detection Revolution in Cancer Care. These events, alongside engaging talks from esteemed international speakers, have set a strong tone for the series.

Over the past three years, we have organised over 60 seminars, featuring researchers and clinicians from over 50 institutions across 13 countries and 7 US states, spanning Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.

February and March Seminars

· Prof Kun-Hsing Yu (Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA)
Date: 3 February 2025
Title: A pathology foundation model for cancer diagnosis and prognosis prediction
Prof Yu will discuss his groundbreaking work on pathology foundation models (CHIEF) and their applications in cancer care.

· Dr Lucy Godson (National Pathology Imaging Co-operative, Leeds, UK)
Date: 17 February 2025
Title: Predicting melanoma patient outcomes using digital pathology
Dr Godson will present her research on leveraging deep learning and graph neural networks to classify whole slide images into molecular immune subgroups and identify novel prognostic biomarkers for melanoma patients.

· Zhilong Weng (University Hospital Cologne, Cologne, Germany)
Date: 3 March 2025
Title: GrandQC: A comprehensive solution to quality control problem in digital pathology
Zhilong will showcase the open-source GrandQC tool, designed to improve the quality control of histological slides, enhance the performance of image analysis algorithms, and address variations in slide quality across institutions and scanners.

· Dr Jinxi Xiang (Stanford University, Stanford, USA)

Date: 10 March 2025

Title: A vision–language foundation model for precision oncology

Dr Xiang will present his work on MUSK, a vision-language foundation model for  image-to-text and text-to-image retrieval, visual question answering, image classification, molecular biomarker prediction, and outcome prediction.
