Gibson Group: Alaina E Emmanuella
Alaina was part of the Gibson group as a PhD student (2011-2016). She now works as a Process Control Specialist at Amazon. See below for details of Alaina's work whilst a Gibson Group member.
Biography
Alaina was born in Lund, Sweden and moved to England in 1998, where she completed her undergraduate BSc in Chemistry with Management at the University of Warwick (2010). Prior to beginning the PhD program she also completed an MSc in Analytical Science: Methods and Instrumental Techniques (ASMIT) at the University of Warwick. As part of the course she undertook a research project with the Dave Haddleton group which focused on the acquisition of binding data of glycoproteins to surface bound lectins using Quartz Crystal Microbalance (with Dissonance monitoring).
Research Interests
Alaina is supervised by Dr R. Notman in the Centre for Scientific Computing/Chemistry, and works in collaboration with M. I. Gibson and T. Congdon. She is currently working on molecular dynamics simulation of antifreeze biomimics. In particular we aim to combine experimental and computational modelling methods to investigate the molecular-level mechanisms of antifreeze active synthetic polymers. Ultimately we aim use this information to develop novel macromolecules with well-defined and optimised antifreeze properties.
