Gibson Group: Toru Ishibe

Biography

Toru Ishibe was born in Okayama, Japan in 1987. Toru dedicated his studies to organic synthesis to achieve Master of Science in 2011 at Hiroshima University, he then started working at JSR Corporation which had a wide variety of business for functional materials. His project was R&D for functional polymers which makes Liquid Crystal Display and Organic Electro-Luminescence Display. If you have smartphone, PC or TV you may have JSR’s. In October 2018, he waved a short goodbye to 'Business Chemistry' and joined Gibson Group to grow as a researcher for two years. During his time with the Gibson Group he will be studing ice-controlling surfaces and de-icing surfaces with controlled radical polymerisation.

Research Interests

Toru is interested in synthetic polymer chemistry, particularly ice-controlling surfaces and de-icing surfaces by using functional polymers.

Professional Experience

  • Researcher, April 2011 - September 2018

Display Solution Research Laboratories, JSR Corporation, Japan

Developed new photosensitive polyimide, polyamic acid and acrylic polymer used for liquid crystal photoalignment films and positive-tone photo resists.

  • Visiting scientist, October 2012 - September 2013

Molecular Engineering Institute, Kinky University, Japan

Developed new curing catalyst and acrylic polymer used for protective film in liquid crystal displays.
