Dr Andrew Marsh
I hold BSc and PhD degrees in Chemistry from Imperial College, LondonLink opens in a new window where I carried out research with Professor Donald CraigLink opens in a new window developing intramolecular Diels-Alder reactions and their application to the synthesis of vitamin D3.
Postdoctoral research with Professor Jean-Marie LehnLink opens in a new window in StrasbourgLink opens in a new window showed how self-assembly processes could be used to make new supramolecular macrocycles and this underpins several strands of research in my group. I then carried out research in the Centre for Self Organising Molecular Systems at the University of Leeds, where work with biologists and physicists allowed the development of supported phospholipid bilayer membranes.
The application of chemistry to solving problems at the interfaces with biological systems and materials science remain exciting challenges for myself and my research group.
