Formula Student
Formula Student Team of 2002

'Formula Student' is a world wide friendly competition between engineering universities to produce the best racing car. Warwick University entered the competition last year (2002), and scored quite good results.

Workshops play a key role in the School of Engineering Formula Student project.

'Formula Student' is a team project made up of students from various areas of study, who work together to design and build a racing car.

The design and practical problems of material application and manufacture that the students face are quite complex, and the need for help and guidance is paramount.

The technicians in the workshop give this input and support, not only in the design problems but in advice on the practical aspects of application, suitability and strength of materials. Advice is given on whether the design will cause difficulties in manufacture due to the inherent limitations of the various metal cutting machines.

The extensive engineering knowledge base and wealth of practical experience of the workshops technical staff gives students a valuable resource to support their creative projects.

This practical base underpins the student's academic and theoretical education to give a more pragmatic and balanced approach to engineering problems that they are likely to encounter in their career.
