Successful balloon launch yesterday
WUSAT successfully launched and recovered the balloon with prototype CubeSat yesterday. Starting from near Welshpool, the CubeSat travelled high into the stratosphere, to over 30km above the Earth's surface, where the balloon popped and a parachute safely carried the CubeSat back to Earth. The prototype was successfully recovered from near Banbury following the 2 hour flight.
The team would like to thank the following for making the launch possible: all of WUSAT's sponsors, Lyncolec, SolidWorks, Thales, ITP Engines UK (ESATAN), National Instruments, Harwin, RS Components and Roke Manor Research, for their support; GoBandit for kindly donating a camera to the project; members of UKHAS, the high altitude ballooning society for their advice and help; Steve Randall of Random Aerospace for his extensive advice and for supplying the ballooning equipment; Chris Hillcox of Balloon News for supplying the tracking devices and for all the advice; Chris Atherton for helping on the launch day; and last but not least our director Bill Crofts for his continued dedication to the project.
