Abstract
The seminar will aim to provide an overview of some of the techniques and technologies for the detection and characterisation of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA ) that have revolutionised the fields of virology and genetics in recent years. Real time quantitative PCR, capillary electrophoresis and detection of DNA fragments will be discussed in relation to the provision of a rapid clinical diagnostic assay.
