A Nuclear Switch

Depending on the stage of the disease (e.g. development, growth, division or relocation to infect another site in the body) cancer cells switch between using carbs and fats as fuel to generate energy. A switch (known as a protein) is needed to tell the cell which fuel to use. This image shows the movement of this protein from the mitochondria (batteries of the cell, shown in red) to form a network (shown in green) around the nucleus, where the genetic code is housed.
