NHS ePortfolio

NHS ePortfolio

Here you'll document your MBChB Phase 2 & 3 placement learning - during CCE, SCP, & Assistantship.

Completing the 'curriculum' lists is a mandatory part of the engagement criteria.

Below you'll find student tips, what's mandatory, what to include, the WMS Sway Guide, a student guide, a quick demo video - & where to approach Clinical Skill sign-offs.

In Phase 2 & 3 there are many SLEs - mandatory ones which you must add to your ePortfolio like OSLER, CBD, Mini-CEX & (in Phase 3) Clinical Skills.

Optional SLEs include BST. You can add these to ePortfolio too - they're the best practice for the mandatory SLEs, exams, & to make you a better doctor!

Other mandatory items include reflections, supervisor feedback (i.e. EoB form), & (in Phase 3) TABs.

NHS ePortfolio habits help your future practice, as you'll need to document your learning & experiences as a doctor.

Upload written feedback, commendations, award nominations & wins too - keep them safe & together for Speciality applications.

Top Tip

Get into a routine:

  • identify what you need in a CCE or SCP block
  • find the opportunity
  • ask a clinician if they're happy to co-sign the item
  • beforehand for CBDs & Mini-CEXs
  • write up & submit on ePortfolio

Importantly - do it before you forget the details, & they forget you did it!

Student Perspective Guides

Here is a helpful Word Guide created by Dr Chloe Berg (2020 Cohort) to give you simplified approach.

Here is a quick demo video created by Dr Tom Shah (2020 Cohort) to show how to submit & view tickets, your personal library, reflections, & TABs.

How do I access my ePortfolio?

The PPD Lead will give an introduction, with a live demo & self-directed guide, before you start CCE1.

You'll then get an email - 'e-Portfolio account information' - with your username & password.

If you can't find or deleted the email, just go to the self-directed guide, click 'Task 1', & follow the instructions for 'Forgot Password', using your Warwick email address.

Clinical Skills Sign-offs in Phase 3

Click an SCP to see which Clinical Skills may be easier to practice & sign off, & to what level.

Approach them in any SCP/s that suit you - but plan in advance so you're not overwhelmed at the end!

You need to do most more than once before you're ready to be signed-off; these are just one way to group them.

You could focus on the skills in bold in each SCP, as opportunities may be few or absent in other SCPs - or are just ideal or most available in that setting.

You could also do these during ACC prep for OSCEs & OSLERs, & during Assistantship - though there are about 11 Skills you can only do during Assistantship already.

Note: NG tube insertion is only to be performed & signed off to the level of simulation.

Your e-Portfolio account is live for 7 years. England use a different system - Horus - but Trusts in Scotland, Wales, & Northern Ireland use this e-Portfolio, so you'll continue with it if your Foundation training is with one of those. Plus, some Royal Colleges use it for their training pathwaysLink opens in a new window.
