Care of the Medical Patient (CMP) covers a bulk of your presentations! This is a heavy block - you will be rotating through different medical specialties on a weekly basis, unlike in Phase 2 CCE where you stay in 1 medical specialty for the whole of 10 weeks. Regardless of which placement this is for you, be it SCP 4 / SCP 8, learn your presentations early and don't leave the presentation to last minute as it can get very busy. During the block, you will also have regular teachings at the trust too!

If you are based in UHCW for CMP, you will be allocated to a different speciality for each week eg. week 1 in cardiology, week 2 in respiratory etc., and will be allocated to various clinics too.

You will also have a palliative care session in which you will be attending a ward with the registrar / consultant, seeing patients on palliative care.

GEH

Care of the Surgical Patient (CSP) also covers a bulk of your presentations! In this block, you will have the opportunity to go to theatres, clerk surgical patients in SAU, attend pre-op clinics and even practice your suturing skills.

Coventry & Warwickshire Partnership (CWPT) is a Community Mental Health Trust covering Coventry and the Warwickshire area. This means that you can be allocated to a placement in Coventry, Leamington Spa, Kenilworth, Warwick, Stratford upon Avon, Rugby or Nuneaton. During your psychiatry placement, you will also spend 1 week in one of the hospital trusts for acute psychiatry. Here you will have the opportunity to attend psychiatry ward rounds.

This SCP includes the Emergency Department, Acute Medicine Unit, ITU, Frailty Team, Outreach Team, and OP Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy, plus Bed Managers, and the team structures look different at night! This is a great block to practice your clinical skills such as taking bloods, ABGs, inserting cannulas etc.

If you are based in UHCW for your Acute Medicine block, you will also spend 1 week in SWFT.

In this block, you will have the opportunity to attend theatres, fracture clinics and other clinics too - such as spine and hands! It is a great block to practice your MSK examinations!

If you are based in UHCW, you will have many teaching sessions. Dr Perkin's teaching sessions, and the X-ray teaching sessions in the morning are particularly useful!

Dr Perkin's teaching sessions cover not only MSK but general medicine too, so it is very useful for revision!
