2007
- Workshop: Hands-on Introduction to Data Acquisition with LabView, Allesley Hotel - Coventry (April)
This course was very useful as it is designed for absolute beginners with no experience of the data acquisition software LabView by National Instruments. National Instruments hold a variety of seminars all over the UK. They also have a free prize draw I was lucky enough to win, so that was an added bonus.
I wrote an article for the MOAC newsletter K12 concerning the Joint DTC Conference held at the University of Warwick.
2006
- Team development course, Scalford Hall - Melton Mowbray (April)
This course was divided into a variety of tasks which were all focussed on working as a team. In one particular task we had to pitch an idea to a panel of investors. For this particular task I took the role of secretary, which helped me develop time management and organisational skills.
- Phage Technologies Workshop, School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, Sutton Bonington Campus - University of Nottingham (October)
This workshop presented phages (viruses which infect bacteria) as therapeutics to bacterial infections and showcased the new facilities installed at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, University of Nottingham. In addition we were given a tour of their Microbiology and Food Safety departments.
- MOAC SSLC (University only) (October - Present)
The first MOAC SSLC committee was created in August 2006 and had its first meeting in September 2006.
I was elected to be Secretary for the MOAC SSLC and have been in charge of creating the agenda and keeping the minutes of the meetings, together with support from the SSLC Chair. In addition I have helped to resolve many of the action points which arose from the SSLC minutes. I have also helped to maintain the MOAC SSLC webpage.
2005
- Virus Ecology Workshop - Methods, Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) - Plymouth (July)
This was an extremely useful course which went through the majority of techniques commonly used in the scientific study of phages. It was also a great opportunity to meet many phage experts in the field who gave presentations as well as demonstrations of the phage methods.
