The first year of the MOAC course is an independent masters. This consists of six months of lectures followed by three, three month projects in the three areas encompassed by the MOAC remit; Experimental Biology, Biophysical Chemistry, Mathematical Biology.

For my experimental biology project, I studied fluorescently tagged astral microtubules in fission yeast with Prof. Rob Cross at the Centre for Mechano-Chemical Biology.

My biophysical chemistry project involved observing latex beads adsorbed onto the surface of polymersomes for Dr. Ir. Stefan Bon in the Bon Polymer Colloids Group.

Working with Rebeca Notman in the CSC I performed molecular dynamics simulations to see how fatty acids affect the permeability of lipid bilayers.
