Call for Papers
We invite short papers from early career researchers at the University of Warwick across science, engineering, and medicine, including interdisciplinary work that crosses traditional boundaries.

Topics of interest
We welcome submissions spanning all topics within the breadth of FSEM, including but not limited to:
- Energy storage, electrification, batteries, supercapacitors, hydrogen, fuel cells
- Sustainable manufacturing, circular economy, recycling, polymers and composites
- Robotics, automation, sensing, control, digital manufacturing, Industry 4.0
- Materials, characterisation, imaging, X-ray CT, diagnostics and measurement
- Mathematics, statistics, modelling, optimisation, computational science, AI/ML
- Physics, photonics, quantum technologies, nanofabrication and devices
- Life sciences, biotechnology, enzymology, microbiology, antimicrobial resistance
- Biomedical engineering, healthcare technologies, translational science
- Environment, climate, resources, sustainability, systems and policy-relevant research
If you are unsure whether your work fits, please submit it anyway. Interdisciplinary work is strongly encouraged.
Awards
There will be awards for:
- Best Paper
- Best Oral Presentation
- Best Poster Presentation

Author requirements
- Peer review: all papers are peer-reviewed.
- Presenting author must be affiliated with University of Warwick.
- Registration: free for authors and attendees.
- Presentation type: on acceptance, papers will be allocated an Oral or Poster presentation.
- When submitting, select either "Oral Presentation Preferred" or "Poster Presentation Only".
- Some authors may be invited to present both orally and as a poster.
- Oral presentation format: 7 minutes talk + 3 minutes Q&A. Talks will be stopped at 10 minutes to keep the programme on schedule.
- Poster printing: the symposium does not provide a poster-printing service; please follow your department’s printing guidance.

Author attendance:If your paper is accepted, at least one author must register to attend and present (registration is free).
Submission requirements
- Paper length: 2 to 4 pages, including figures and references.
- Template: submissions must use the official template. The template is available in .docx format here. First submissions can be in PDF. However, final submissions must be in .docx format due to the publication process used by Warwick Press.
- No font changes: changing font size or making significant changes to the template are not permitted and may result in desk rejection.
- Submission limit: each submitting author may submit up to 3 papers.
Proceedings
Accepted papers will be published by University of Warwick Press in the Proceedings of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine Early Career Researcher Symposium (FSEM 2026).
- Diamond Open Access: no fee to publish; no fee to read
- Author copyright: authors retain copyright
- Discoverability: planned indexing via Google Scholar and deposit in WRAP

The Microsoft CMT service was used for managing the peer-reviewing process for this conference. This service was provided for free by Microsoft and they bore all expenses, including costs for Azure cloud services as well as for software development and support.
How to submit
Submissions for FSEM 2026 are managed through Microsoft CMT. Before submitting, authors should ensure that they have a Microsoft CMT account. If you already use CMT for another conference, you should use your existing account rather than creating a new one.
When the submission portal opens:

Open the FSEM 2026 submission pageLink opens in a new window and sign in to Microsoft CMT. If you do not have a Microsoft CMT account, you will be prompted to create one.

In the "Author Console" page for the conference, click on "Create new submission".

Enter the paper title and abstract, upload your .docx or .pdf of the manuscript, and complete the form ensuring that all authors are added, and that names , email addresses, affiliations, and other details are correct.

Click Submit to finalise your submission. Please note that uploaded files are not saved unless the Submit button is clicked.

A confirmation email will be sent after successful submission.
Following submission of your work, the Conference Chairs will begin the peer-review process. If you would like to become a reviewer for FSEM2026, please see the instructions on how to become a reviewer. Authors are also welcome to volunteer as peer-reviewers.
