What will the course provide?


You will gain a thorough understanding of the supply network: constructing the relationships that bring it into being; commissioning the technologies that enable it to operate; managing the input, the material and the information flow; and distributing the product.

As a successful graduate of SCLM you will be able to work effectively in a variety of markets, and manage product and process development, but also financial management to ensure reliable, cost-effective and high quality supply.

This course is designed for those working in logistics, purchasing, planning, and supply chain in manufacturing based enterprises, as well as supporting service organisations.

This course accredited by the IET, the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

 

Core modules

Real world cases of supply chain management, illustrating ways of achieving enduring competitiveness. Gain an understanding of strategic outsourcing and make/buy, lean and agile supply management, costing techniques and IT in supply chain management.
 
Introduces the concept of logistics and provides a comprehensive framework of tools to improve logistics and operations management performance. Learn how to effectively develop a logistics strategy and understand customer/supplier relationships, operations planning and control, distribution networks and performance measurement.
 
Understand the design and management processes of the inbound supply chain. Learn where to collect information for planning or improving supply and stock keeping processes. Set requirements for supplier selection process and operate in procurement and inventory management processes. Use best practice solutions and state of the art control methods for managing the main players in the supply chain, taking into consideration logistics and financial aspects. Manage uncertainty of customer markets and the impact on demand and supply along multiple stages of the supply chain.
 
Understand the basic accounting principles, terminology and techniques required to enable you to interpret financial reports and management accounting practices. Contribute to departmental financial planning and control.
 

Focusing on the legal aspects of global business directly affect the planning, management and profitability of national and international business activities: Recognise the potential legal implications of operational and functional management roles and learn to compare the appropriate sources of specialist advice and dispute resolution. Develop an awareness of legal principles that relate to e-business. Assess the impact of property rights on legal obligations. Distinguish between the legal systems of the UK, the European Community and elsewhere.

Understand the social and cultural structures in organisations and how your own contribution as a manager impacts on the effectiveness of the organisation.
