Complexity and variety management is concerned with three interlinked issues:
- Ensuring that a business has the correct breadth of product mix, providing appropriate revenue and profit streams
- Ensuring that the design of product families is in line with these product mix requirements in the most cost effective way
- Ensuring that the manufacturing and supply chain processes are capable of managing the ensuing complexity
The Benefits
The complexity and variety management work that has been undertaken as part of the PVLT project has allowed our partner companies to improve the range of features that they offer their customers. It has also helped them to simplify their product range to reflect their customers' requirements. These factors, along with improved supply chain effectiveness, have resulted in improved profitability for our partners.
