Evaluation of an outreach event on students' perception of Engineering
Research Group Activity
The WMG Outreach team aims to take university content out of the 'academic world' and share it with a wider audience. We work with schools, local museums, charity groups, and public events both on and off campus. Our mission is to share the research that we work on at WMG with young people and inspire them to consider STEM careers. We do this to fill the 'skills gap' and ensure there is a talented workforce available in the future but also to build trust with the public in the innovations we produce.
Project Description
This year marks a return to in person delivery of outreach following the global pandemic. Our flagship event over the summer is a Summer School which is being run by the Graduate Trainee Engineers in WMG. The summer school will give local students an opportunity to work in groups building a model that represents part of our research into sustainability - solar panels tracking the sun across the sky, electric vehicles, battery manufacture, etc. This intern will work on evaluating the impacts of that summer school on the participants and staff running the event. This will be supported by the WMG Outreach team.
The intern will be invited to attend the summer school and support gathering data. The event will be 27th-29th July 2022 on Warwick campus.
Required Skills
Working with spreadsheets, collecting data, evaluating qualitative and quantitative data, some basic statistical tests, working with young people, communicating findings with a variety of audiences.
