Putting Conferences on the Map - New Blog 'Conference Inference' Launched by Emily Henderson (CES) and James Burford (Thammasat University, Thailand)
CES Assistant Professor Emily Henderson and James Burford (Lecturer at Thammasat University, Thailand) have launched a new blog: 'Conference Inference: Blogging the World of Conferences'. The blog, which will include posts from Emily and Jamie as well as regular guest contributions, aims to provide a platform for critical and creative analyses of conferences. Conferences are an integral aspect of the academic profession, but they are under-researched, and much literature about conferences takes an anecdotal or 'top tips' approach.
This blog approaches conferences with an open mind – never fully knowing what they are, or the reasons their participants do the things they do. 'Conference Inference' is interested in contributions that explore the ways conferences are influenced by (and also influence) socio-political dynamics. The blog is also interested in space, relationships, emotions, and contributions that illuminate academic conferences as complex ecosystems.
The blog launched on Monday 30th January with guest posts from Yvette Taylor (Strathclyde) about conference labour, Mark Readman (Bournemouth) about 'selfish' conference behaviour, Adisorn Juntrasook (Thammasat) on conferences and the contemplative education movement, and Nicholas Rowe (Lapland) on the in/efficacy of poster sessions.

Research from CES looks at how religious education contributes to community cohesion
The work of Warwick Religions and Education Research Unit (WRERU) in CES has been cited on Phys.org
Religious education is key to community cohesion finds new research following a survey of nearly 12,000 13- to 15-year-old students attending schools across the United Kingdom.
The project on "Young People's Attitudes to Religious Diversity", carried out by the Warwick Religions and Education Research Unit (WRERU) at the University of Warwick, addressed two main questions:
- What are the attitudes of young people in the UK to religious diversity?
- What are the main influences shaping those attitudes

Inaugural Meeting of the Early Years Education RIG
This RIG (Research Interest Group) intends to develop a network of practitioners, students and academics interested in the field of Early Years Education with a view to furthering understanding of leadership in this context and developing the relationship between research and practice.

CES Department Trip to Gregynog Hall 2017
On 21st-22nd January, students and staff from across the faculty made the annual CES trip to Gregynog Hall in Wales. The weekend offered the chance to get away from campus and city life and 'expand the mind' amidst the Welsh countryside air and the historic and original Hall.
