In anticipation of the upcoming UCU strikes which have been announced for this date, the CJC has taken the difficult decision not to hold this event on this date.We are hoping that we can reschedule for another occasion.

On 9th February 2023, The Criminal Justice Centre will be hosting a movie screening and debate on the film 'Argentina 1985'.

The event will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the screening of the film and will be followed by a debate at 5:00 p.m.

'Based on real events, the story follows the events surrounding the 1985 Trial of the Juntas, which prosecuted the ringleaders of Argentina's last civil-military dictatorship (1976–1983), and centers on the titanic work of a group of lawyers led by prosecutors Julio César Strassera and Luis Moreno Ocampo against those responsible for the most bloody dictatorship in the history of Argentina. The narration reflects on the true meaning in the concepts of memory, truth and justice under the slogan "Nunca Más" ('Never Again'). ' (Wikipedia 2022)

The debate will be introduced by Dr Luis Moreno Ocampo (former Deputy Prosecutor of the Junta Trial and former Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court)

The speakers will be:

Professor Roberto Gargarella (Universidad Torcuato Di Tella),

Dr Francesca Lessa (University of Oxford) and

Dr Valeria Vegh Weis (Universidad de Buenos Aires and Max Planck Institute).

This event is open to UG and PG students as well as staff.
