How do I use this calendar?

PGR Writing Bootcamp: Term 1
S2.12

Runs from Tuesday, November 05 to Thursday, November 07.

The Student-Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) at Warwick Law School is happy to invite you to our first writing boot camp for this academic year. The boot camp will run from 5-7 November during reading week and will be held at S2.12 (aka Moot Court Room). Intended to serve as both a social and study-focused space, the Writing Bootcamp will allow us to work together for dedicated periods of time, chat, and share any concerns in a supportive environment.

The event will run hybrid and we welcome everyone by offering online participation. Lunch and snacks will also be provided for those of you who can join in person. We just ask you to indicate this by signing up HERE so we can arrange food and snacks with minimal wastage. Please sign up by filling out the form.

We understand that not everyone can commit to both sessions on each day, but you can drop in and out whenever it is suitable for you. Please find the schedule attachedLink opens in a new window. Please also note that you don't need to write to join the event. You can do some reading or tick off anything on your to-do list.

Lets discuss CV and cover letter

Members of the Careers team will lead the discussion and students will need to be willing to actively engage with the topic and be ready to ask questions and share experiences of writing applications. By the end of the session, you will have:

  • Recognised different types of applications required by recruiters
  • Explored how to prepare and research effectively in order to write a good application
  • Identified how to approach different types of applications
  • Considered how to create a good impression through the application process

Do you want to learn more about what consulting is all about?

Warwick Economics Society is delighted to present this special Economics Consulting Panel Event. This event will welcome panellists from three of the largest global economic consultancy firms: FTI, Charles River Associates and Compass Lexecon. These employers are leading the sector in areas ranging from competition economics to public policy analysis and industrial organisation.

What to expect from the panel event:

■ An explanation of what economic consulting.is all about.

■ Career advice from the panellists on how to succeed in consultancy internship applications.

This event is for students of all degree levels, from first year students to postgraduates, so whether you are interested in a graduate role or just want to learn more about the consulting industry, this event is for you! This is a unique opportunity to get your questions answered!

Keynote Speaker - Richard Hughes - Chair of the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR)

The Warwick Economics Summit are pleased to present the keynote speaker session with Richard Hughes.

'Economics and the Great Challenges of our Time'

How can economists use their knowledge and abilities to help solve three of the great challenges facing the world today: Demographic change and rising geopolitical tensions

About the Speaker

Richard began his five-year term as Chair of the Office for Budget Responsibility in October 2020.

He started his career at HM Treasury in 2000 where he worked on a range of domestic and international macroeconomic issues and led the 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review, Following a brief secondment to the French Ministry of Finance in 2007, he joined the International Monetary Fund in 2008 where he headed the Fiscal Affairs Department's Public Finance Division and worked on fiscal reform in a range of advanced, emerging, and developing countries.

Richard returned to HM Treasury between 2016 and 2019 as Director of Fiscal Policy where he oversaw the government’s fiscal strategy, debt management, and treasury operations and served as Acting Chief Economist.

In the year leading up to his appointment, Richard was a Research Associate at the Resolution Foundation where he published papers on fiscal rules, public investment, and the economic and fiscal implications of coronavirus. He also served as Senior Counsellor to the Haut Conseil des Finances Publiques (High Council on Public Finance) in France, Lecturer at Sciences Po in Paris, Visiting Fellow at the Blavatnik School of Government in Oxford.

He was educated at Harvard University and the University of Oxford.

OSCOLA: An introduction the law referencing style
Online

Law and legal skills OSCOLA is a referencing style widely used in law schools across the UK including the Warwick Law School. This online workshop will introduce the new 5th edition of OSCOLA and show you how to reference key primary (legislation and case law) and secondary (books and journals) legal materials, and how to create your bibliography.
