Dr Yong-Soo Eun is a Research Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation (CSGR), University of Warwick. He is broadly interested in theories of international relations, foreign policy analysis, and the international relations of the Asia-Pacific region.
His most recent publications include “Why and How Should We Go for a Multicausal Analysis in the Study of Foreign Policy?: (Meta-) theoretical Rationales and Methodological Rules,” Review of International Studies, 2011; “Rethinking Logic of Inference and Explanation in the field of International Relations”, Politics (accepted and forthcoming 2012); “Great Powers in the Asia Pacific Region and Australia’s Foreign Policy: A Dual-Track Strategy” in Lee Hee-jin ed., Understanding Contemporary Australia (KSI, 2011).
Before joining Warwick, Yong-Soo worked at the Institute for Far Eastern Studies in Seoul as a Research Fellow, and while undertaking his PhD research was offered a Visiting Fellowship from the Lowy Institute for International Policy in Sydney. He also served as Program Officer in charge of the Policy-oriented Research Program of the Korea Foundation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
At the CSGR Yong-Soo will work on two research projects. First, he will investigate how weaker states behave towards the dominant power of the contemporary international system, namely the United States, with the aim of the development of a well-specified theory of weaker powers’ behaviour vis-à-vis a dominant power. Second, Yong-Soo intends to examine East Asian security dynamics. Based on the findings of this research, he will discuss how to study East Asian international security more effectively.
These two intended works will benefit substantively from working with the contributing scholars and international partners of The GR:EEN project, such as Professor Mark Beeson, Professor Shaun Breslin, and Professor Richard Higgott, whose own research interests focus on the politics of the Asia-Pacific region and the dynamics of American power in East Asia.
In addition to undertaking the research projects, Dr Eun teaches on the MA module, International Relations of Pacific Asia (PO920) in the Department of Politics and International Studies, University of Warwick. He holds office hours on Thursday (10:00 - 11:00 am) and Friday (10:00 - 11:00 am) in S.1.61. He also can be reached at email@example.com
