Globalisation and Social Exclusion

Abstract:

This project is funded by a two-year grant from the European Commission, and involves also the Kiel Institute of Word Economics (Germany), the European Centre for Policy Studies (Brussels), the universities of Minho (Portugal) and Stockholm (Sweden), and, until recently, the National Institute for Economic and Social Research (NIESR) (London). The project aims to determine the role played by globalisation and other factors (technoligical change, changes in labour market institutions, etc.) in influencing employment and relative earnings of unskilled workers in various European countries, and how industries in Europe have responded to increased competition from low-wage economies.
