Does British Sociology Count? The feminisation of sociology

Many feminists come from an academic background in sociology. Therefore trends in the undergraduate teaching and learning of sociological research methods are likely to be influential in shaping future feminist research approaches. Women outnumber men in sociology, both as staff and students. Has this ‘feminisation’ of the discipline had an impact on choices around research methods? What implications might this have for feminism? This session will explore these questions with reference to a recent ESRC study of sociology students’ attitudes to research methods.

This talk will be followed by small group discussion of some of the issues raised.
