A talk presented by Professor Meltem Ahiska, Professor in the Sociology Department, Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey. Professor Ahiska has research interests in the areas of Orientalism/Occidentalism, critical theory, social memory and gender and has published widely on these topics. Her talk focuses on violence against women in Turkey and draws on a chapter that she contributed to 'Vulnerability in Resistance', a book edited by Judith Butler, Zeynep Gambetti and Leticia Sabsay (2016) and published by Duke University Press.
