CSWG Film Screening - انتي صامدة / She the Steadfast
You are warmly invited to join us for a screening of the film
انتي صامدة / She the Steadfast
(49 mins, 2023)
including a post-show Q&A with director Dr Joy Stacey and Professor Nicola Pratt
She the Steadfast offers a strikingly original exploration of Palestinian identity and women’s resistance to Israeli settler colonialism. Developed with Palestinian women living in the West Bank (2016–2022), the film draws inspiration from indigenous dress culture to weave together five powerful women’s performances with a patchwork of archival footage from Palestine, the diaspora, and international media. The result is a bold, multi-layered portrait of gender, memory, and resistance—one that reimagines how stories of occupied Palestine can be told.
The film features collaborative theatre from Mariam, Su’ad, Nawal, Nihayah, Fadwa, and Yara; original performances by Hanin Tarabay and Asmaa Azaizeh; and archival images from the UNRWA photo and film archive for Palestine refugees. This not-for-profit film was made with support from CHASE, with post-study development funded by Arts Council England.
