Annual Leave Guidance

The WFS Annual Leave Guidance statement is intended to be read as an addendum to the University’s Annual Leave Policy.

The guidance has been produced to ensure that the student experience and efficient running of the department are not negatively impacted by annual leave patterns and so may represent change in some cases. This guidance applies to all staff.

Absence Reporting Card Access Compulsory Training

The following training is mandatory for all staff, regardless of contract type. All training needs to be completed in line with the frequency stated, with certificates then sent to the WGA Executive Officer ( ).

Task Managers/Line Managers

Within WGA, you will find that there are both Line Managers and Task Managers - some people will act as both for their direct reports, others may be a Line Manager only, with another member of staff in the role of Task Manager.

Line Manager

Task Manager

Functional management relating to individuals as employees
Only one line manager per member of staff
Conduct annual Personal Development Reviews
Talk to staff about their development plans and CPD
Sign-off annual leave and other forms of leave
Signpost to University and employee assistance at the University
Provide advice on University and Departmental policies (e.g. flexible working, hybrid working)
Only academic staff at grade 8 and above are line managers
Not responsible for assigning work or directing activities – but can provide help and guidance about work staff may have been asked to do by others

Activity/project management relating to the things employees contribute to various activities within the Department
Can be multiple task managers e.g. Course Director, Senior Tutor etc.
Task managers are responsible for the output of a specific project, programme or activity
Typically referred to as ‘dotted line' reports
Not responsible for anything in the line manager role
