Goal 1
To become an institutional department of best practice for teaching excellence, supporting the University’s wider Education strategy
We will:
Develop a departmental Teaching and Learning strategy to meet the specific needs of international students on the Warwick IFP based on current pedagogical research
We will do this by:
(1) Ensuring the regular review of student outcomes and student feedback (Ongoing)
(2) Completing an annual review of teaching, learning and assessment guidelines and expectations (Ongoing)
We will:
Provide a comprehensive programme of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for all staff
We will do this by:
(3) Delivering a suite of ten (10) CPD opportunities each year, utilizing resources within the department and across the wider university (September 2017)
(4) Creating a community of practice to facilitate discussion and the sharing of best practice within the department (October 2017)
(5) Enabling staff to complete and disseminate research on innovations in teaching and learning to identify best practice (2018-19)
(6) Implementing annual peer observations alongside seminar observations that will align with the emerging Teaching and Learning Strategy (Spring 2018)
We will:
Position the department as an exemplar of teaching excellence within the University
We will do this by:
(7) Establishing a Department Education Strategy aligned with University’s Education Strategy (January 2019)
(8) Ensuring staff engagement in WIHEA opportunities (for e.g., Masterclasses, Project Funding, learning circles, etc.) (2018-19)
(9) Ensuring the department actively supports wider CPD opportunities for staff (e.g. by enabling the undertaking of further qualifications; training courses and participation in conferences) (Ongoing)
(10) Participating in the annual faculty showcase of Teaching and Learning initiatives (2018-19)
(11) Implementing an internal communications plan to showcase the department’s provision (2018-19)

- To work in collaboration with other academic departments to support their international recruitment objectives (diversification of international student cohort, in terms of nationality and disciplinary choice)
- To design, implement and deliver new programmes of study or short courses that enable students to develop the necessary skills and academic competencies required for their future studies at Warwick or elsewhere
- To work collaboratively with academic and administrative departments to achieve the University’s Widening Participation and Fair Access objectives
