WBS Mentor CPD - Self Reporting

<< back to CPD

NEW - from June 2017 - CPD Self Reporting

Following a recommendation from IiP that, in order to maintain our focus on the high quality of our mentoring, we 'consider a light touch requirement for all Mentors on the Programme to commit to a minimum amount of CPD on an annual basis.'

In considering this recommendation Steering Committee have decided that, in accordance with the voluntary nature and ethos of the Programme, there is no need for us to be prescriptive about the amount of CPD undertaken by mentors nor will we require mentors to submit annual records of CPD undertaken to WBS.

We feel that new and current Mentors will wish to take advantage of any relevant online and face-to-face development opportunities offered by WBS, as and when they can, and we also recognise that many Mentors will, in any event, undertake and maintain a record of their own CPD in the course of their own careers and experience, the rich diversity of which, is of course, is one of the major strengths of the Programme.

We feel that by being flexible around this we will satisfy the recommendations made by IiP in furtherance of our commitment to quality but without impinging inappropriately on our Mentors in terms of their time or unnecessary bureaucracy!

WBS Mentor Self-Report DocumentTo help with this there is a simple template form which we invite Mentors to maintain for their own records.

For your information we would only envisage asking for sight of this in the event of sampling, say in the event of future accreditation of the Programme, or in the event of scrutiny about the quality of mentoring service we offer.

The Mentors we've spoken to about this understand the importance to the quality and reputation of the Programme of maintaining their own ongoing record of CPD and also appreciate the flexibility to take advantage of development opportunities provided either by WBS or externally as and when they see fit.

To tie in with programme years, this is with effect from June 2017. If you have any queries or anything further to add on this please feel free to discuss this with Co-Chairs Andrew Leach or Sanjiv Patel, Donna or any member of the Steering Committee who will be pleased to discuss.'
