Meet Prince: Learner

Prince

Prince is an exceptionally bright 14-year old learner in the Kayamandi Township, South Africa.

His home-life is typical of many of the learners living in the township. One year ago his family left Zimbabwe in search of a better life in South Africa. Yet life in Kayamandi presents its own challenges. In particular, he hates the prevalence of crime in the township, which makes it dangerous for him to go out and play with his friends.

Despite these difficulties, Prince is an excellent student who has been quick to adapt to studying in South Africa. His determination and hard work in class were clear to see from the outset. He thoroughly engaged with Warwick in Africa English lessons and says that now he loves the subject because the Warwick teachers made lessons fun and memorable.

He also notes that he feels comfortable speaking to the Warwick teachers if he doesn’t understand because he knows that they’ll be able to provide a clear explanation and will work with the learner until they completely understand.

He hopes to study Natural Sciences at university, having met the Warwick in Africa teachers he has been inspired to study in England one day.
