Why supporting Warwick matters

Since the beginning, Alumni and Supporters, like you, sit at the heart of the University of Warwick’s story. From creating student homes on campus, leading early interventions for young people’s mental health, improving diagnosis for cancer and helping governments urgently respond in times of crisis – it’s not possible without you.

In 2017, the Social Mobility Commission identified education and employment prospects as crucial to the reduction of inequality. In the West Midlands alone, 450,000 people aged 21 and under live in “social mobility coldspots”.

That’s why at Warwick, your donations mean so much more than just a financial contribution to students. We are a regional leader in social mobility, identifying promising students with limited opportunities and providing them with a pathway to both higher education and employment.

Why your support matters

Ankit Shanker

Institute of Global Pandemic Planning PhD Student

“The IGPP scholarship has enabled me, and other people like me from all around the world and from different disciplines, to come together and work on how we can be better prepared for future pandemics. I think for every young researcher like me, it is very important to think about the impact of our research. This scholarship has made massive contributions to my potential because I can focus on my research and its impact, without worrying about financial support.”

Iqra Ahmed

Law (LLB) Student

“My experience as a student at Warwick summed up in one word would be ‘amazing’. The [Warwick Scholars] Programme has been pivotal to my Warwick journey because I’ve found a community which I can be part of with individuals who have had the same challenges and the same journey as me. As the first in my family to go to university, I'm grateful to have not only found a community, but for all the opportunities I've had.”

Kirsten Lim

Life Sciences and Global Sustainable Development student

“The support I've received has really given me back my confidence, and the courage to be who I want to be, explore my options and develop my interests… Living in our volatile world right now, knowing there is support available gives me hope for the future.”

Mantas Drelingas

Chemistry student

“Recent graduates haven’t had much opportunity to conduct research, partly due to COVID restrictions. This need for practical experience is just one of the many reasons why supporting research at Warwick is so important. Without the support we receive, we probably wouldn’t get into research (or we would do much less of it!).”
