Visit from the Ministry of Education from the Republic of Myanmar, 1-2 December 2016

On 1st December, Professor Chris Hughes (PVC Education) welcomed a delegation from Republic of the Union of Myanmar (also known as Burma) to campus. The delegation was led by the Union Minister of Education, Professor Myo Thein Gyi, and included key figures from the Myanmar Ministry of Education. The two-day visit was organised by the Office for Global Engagement in partnership with the British Council (http://www.britishcouncil.org.mm/programmes/education/reform), and was part of a wider study tour to the UK to develop the Myanmar government and sector’s awareness of international practice in order to inform domestic policy reform.

The delegation met with key stakeholders cross the university, including senior members of staff form the Executive Office, WMG, the Centre for Education Studies, the Department of Politics and International Studies amongst others with the aim of learning more about our governance structures, excellence in teaching and learning and our successes in industry engagement. Professor Myo Thein Gyi also gave a talk open to all Warwick staff and students, hosted by Professor Lawrence Young, entitled ‘The transformation of Myanmar’s universities: approaches to higher education reform’.
