Warwick success in FAPESP Sprint call
Two Warwick academics, Dr. Colm Connaughton and Dr. Manuela Tosin, have been successful in the recent SPRINT 2017 call for proposals to the joint FAPESP-Warwick Fund. SPRINT (São Paulo Researchers in International Collaboration) is a strategy designed to encourage and promote the advancement of international research by funding researchers affiliated with institutions in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, and their academic partners abroad.
Professor Lorenzo Frigerio represents Warwick on a UK delegation to Colombia
Professor Lorenzo Frigerio (Life Sciences) represented Warwick on a UK delegation to Colombia led by Universities UK International (UUKi) in June. The visit aimed to identify and facilitate opportunities for cooperation in teaching, research, postgraduate training and mobility. Alongside a focus on peace-building and transitional justice, the delegation also explored fast-developing opportunities for cooperation in research across the life sciences, social sciences and the arts and humanities. The Colombian Embassy in London then hosted a follow-up meeting in July (photo above). You can see a short film about the visit produced by the British Council here.
UK-Mexico Visiting Chair 2017
Warwick is delighted to be participating in an innovative initiative bringing together 12 UK and 12 Mexican universities aimed at fostering academic mobility between the two countries. The call is now open for Warwick researchers to apply for mobility funding to support their visit to a Mexican partner institution in 2017-18.

An academic delegation led by Academic Vice-President, Prof. Lawrence Young, visited Shanghai on 18-19 May 2017 in order to broaden and deepen Warwick's research and teaching links with university partners.
Warwick welcomes the University of Malta
Warwick welcomed a delegation of 8 academics from the University of Malta on 22 and 23 May 2017. This visit was underpinned by a Memorandum of Understanding between Warwick and Malta, which was recently signed by our Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Stuart Croft, and the Rector of the University of Malta, Prof Alfred J. Vella (who is also a Visiting Professor in Warwick’s Department of Chemistry).
Warwick researchers explore biomass collaboration in Indonesia
Prof. Richard Walton (Chemistry) and Dr. Volkan Degirmenci (Engineering) visited Indonesia in March 2017 to develop their existing collaboration with Universitas Indonesia in biomass research and explore possible new links with Universitas Gadjah Mada.

Warwick launches Global Partnership Fund
Global Partnership Fund 2017-18
The University’s partnership funds have supported collaborations across the globe in key developed and emerging research economies including Indonesia, China, India, USA and Singapore. They are intended to encourage partnerships that will lead to the development of important global research collaborations.
Applications for 2017-18 open on 11 February and will close on 3 April 2017.
Eligible applications will be reviewed by an academic panel chaired by Professor Lawrence Young. Awards will be made up to the value of £5000 per year for up to two years (2017-18 and 2018-19), and first year funds have to be spent before 31 July 2018.
