The Americas

Our academics work closely with counterparts in leading higher education institutions, industry partners and funding bodies across the Americas on a wide variety of projects in both research and education. We also aspire to attract the best and most talented international students and are pleased to welcome students from across the Americas every year.

Working together

At Warwick we are looking to expand our relationships and collaborations with leading institutions across the Americas. Below are just a few examples of our partnerships and initiatives.

University of
Toronto

Professor Sharifah Sekalala is collaborating with Lisa Forman, Associate Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, researching health inequity in global crises. Having won a prestigious Connaught Global Challenge Fund award, Sekalala and Forman will bring together a group of international human rights law and global health policy experts to advance an interdisciplinary human rights research programme on COVID-19 vaccines, and provide opportunities for collaboration and exchange for Toronto and Warwick students.

Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG)

We have a well-established and fruitful relationship with the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Brazil. Every year, a number of Warwick students have the opportunity to attend UFMG's Summer School on Brazilian Studies (SSBS). For the first time, this year, UFMG students will participate in the International Conference of Undergraduate Research 2024, hosted by Warwick, in June.

Fulbright
Commission

Warwick has a close relationship with the Fulbright Commission and annually welcome scholars onto our postgraduate courses. Warwick is also proud that some of our academics have been funded by Fulbright to undertake research in the USA.

University of
Waterloo

We have a long-standing partnership with Waterloo University including joint research, student exchange and a double degree with the Balsillie School of International Affairs. The latest collaboration is between Esports experts and will see the two universities share best practice and collaborate on research and curriculum design.

Latin America at Warwick Network (LAWN)

The Latin America at Warwick Network (LAWN) connects an interdisciplinary group of scholars across the university whose research and teaching relates to Latin America. The strong tradition of Latin American research at Warwick, which dates back nearly to the University’s founding, has built a strong collective of scholars with interests in the region across the Humanities, Social Sciences, Business, and beyond.

Cornell University

Cornell
University

Students from Cornell University have joined counterparts from Warwick, Universities of Hong Kong and Toronto, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University in TeamWork, a virtual international experience programme. Taking place over four weeks, teams of eight students collaborate on a specific project set by an organisation, requiring them to develop communication and team work skills and cultural awareness.

Hear from our international academic lead for North America

“We are committed to extending and enhancing our relationships with partners in North America, and to pursue opportunities for funding, education, and research collaboration. There are strong foundations on which to build; Warwick colleagues have been collaborating, innovating and sharing best practice with North American counterparts for many years across the spectrum of academic disciplines, attracting prestigious external funding and conducting pioneering research. Since 2018 Warwick staff have co-authored over 5000 publications with North American colleagues and each year we have seen increasing success in funding applications to support joint endeavours."

Carsten Maple, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (North America)
