Glorious Technicolor, Breathtaking CinemaScope: The Spectacle of Technology in Screen Media

- Export as iCalendar
Location: Millburn House, exact location given on registration

This inter- and multi-disciplinary conference seeks to explore ways in which particular screen technologies and media are displayed and spectacularised – that is, instances in which attention is drawn to the medium or technology itself rather than simply to its content.

Technological reflexivity (as we might call it) is not a new phenomenon of the digital age but has occurred throughout the history of screen technology. This conference will investigate technological reflexivity as a possible source of historical continuity and/or site for difference, thus working towards a more synthesised, complete understanding of the long history of technological change.

Confirmed speakers include:

Dr. Alison Griffiths (Department of Communication Studies, Baruch College, CUNY)

Dr. William Boddy ( Department of Communication Studies, Baruch College, CUNY)

Dr. Helen Wheatley (Department of Film and Television Studies, University of Warwick)

Please note, booking for this event closes on Friday 12 February.
