Annual Lecture Black History Month - Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng

- Export as iCalendar

The Law School introduced the Annual Black History Month Lecture in 2020. This year, the 2nd Annual BHM Lecture will be given by Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng who is the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health. Tlaleng Mofokeng is a medical doctor with expertise advocating for universal health access, human rights, HIV care, youth friendly services and family planning.

As the first Black female Special Rapporteur on the right to health, Dr Mofokeng has made Decolonisation a key part of her mandate and her first report to the General Assembly made it clear that she aims to examine the understanding of coloniality and racism, their impact on the right to health and how to move forward to substantive equality.

Her annual lecture will discuss the racial impacts of COVID-19 on sexual and reproductive rights globally and suggest how an intersectional approach can enable states to achieve sexual and reproductive rights for their citizens.
