Aping Mankind: Neuromania and Darwinitis

PosterProfessor Raymond Tallis, Emeritus Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Manchester, Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and prolific scientist, philosopher and author delivers his talk on 'Aping Mankind: Neuromania and Darwinitis', where he engages critically with what he considers to be the exaggerated claims made for the ability of neuroscience and evolutionary theory to explain human consciousness, behaviour, culture and society.

His many books offer a stimulating critique of current predominant intellectual trends and an alternative understanding of consciousness, the nature of language and of what it is to be human.

The talk is open to staff, students, alumni and the general public. Places are limited; please register online.
