Leamington Peace Festival

Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June 2008

The thirtieth annual Leamington Peace Festival takes place this year, and will celebrate this milestone in style with a programme packed with entertainment for everyone, and all for free.

Leamington band Locomundo start the Festival in style at 11am with music to dance to, and that high energy feeling will be continued all weekend with happy, dancey, summer sounds including: Misty's Big Adventure, Kangaroo Moon and the return of local festival favourites Le Cod Afrique, as well as Warwick University Battle of the Band winners Hot Magenta. The Dhol Blasters provide a fantastic finale at 5.30pm on the Sunday.

There are more sounds on the bandstand with political singers Roy Bailey and David Ferrard, rapper Jimmy Davis, country with Highway Dave & the Varmints, Latin sounds with Tempo Novo and much more including the always-popular dance displays including belly dancers & break dancing (from the University).

Throughout the weekend there will be graffiti art, free art & craft workshops, tai chi and on Sunday all day theatre when Talking Birds bring 'The Whale' to the site.

There is plenty to keep the younger children amused, with walkabout performances with much-loved Sylvesta the Jester and record breaking Samsam the Bubble Man, puppetry, storytelling and craft workshops.

And always at the heart of the festival, there will be a wide variety of charities and campaigning stalls, and there will be talks from both stages between bands with suggestions as to what you can do to help make the world a better place. Speakers will include representatives from Amnesty International, Friends of the Earth, One World Link, CND, Stop the War, Action 21 and many more.
